goodness, it's beyond me why people do this. RB isn't even teaching there, PLUS that's a copyrighted image of Pixie Vision Productions, if I'm not mistaken. not even so much as a photocredit, because they've photoshopped out the copyrighted part with her website on it! shame on them!

I certainly hope she is just oblivious and doesn't know anything about copyright laws. You'd have to be pretty dense but I hate thinking about people being so disrespectful. I always ask for permission when I use images on my site, even when the usage is already implied as ok. Even if it wasn't a law, its respect.

Wow. Take a look at their policies. Rule #1 under Studio Etiquette:
"1. Show respect for your teacher." She then goes on to say that teachers are revered in Eastern disciplines and that choreographies are not to be taught without permission. And to top it all off, ends with, "Ask the teacher for her policy regarding this very important legal issue." *AHEM!*
Isn't it ironic? Don'tcha think? A little toooooo ironic?
Damn Alanis Morissette song stuck in my head now!

Wow. That website is wrong on so many levels. It's icky when someone demands the respect accorded to master teachers in the East just because they are teaching a class in an Eastern discipline. If you deserve respect, you'll get it. Demanding it on your etiquette page (and in the #1 position!) smacks of a power trip.

Unfortunately, the general public who come to take bellydance, or even other bellydance students, do need to have studio etiquette explained to them. Personally, I think just the headers would be enough. But all those points are valid in order to allow for the best experience for everyone in her studio. Everyone has a different idea of what respect is - giving and receiving. She's obviously had enough problems with people in the past to put something up on the website.

Besides the unauthorized use of Rachel's photo on the mainpage, which is no longer there, most of the site seems pretty standard. And what a cool feature to have the choreographies posted for the students (as long as they're her own and not unauthorized copies).

          Just my coupla coppers

    "Music:
Instructors do not burn individual copies of music for students. We have a list of all the songs that we use for choreography on CD. We have one CD for Beginner Level Choreographies, one CD for Intermediate and one CD for Advanced Level music. CD's cost $10.00 each and are available for purchase at the beginning of the session.
We do not loan out DVD's and/or CD's. We will; however, provide you the name of the CD or DVD if you want to purchase it."

Umm, are they selling copyrighted material and do the have the ok of the artist to sell a CD?

I guess its seems a little nazi-ish their rules, I can understand them but its pretty harsh to put them out there. I would almost be intimidated to start a class there, I am one that loves to laugh. I wonder if I would get a ruler to my hand, lordy I would probably get kicked out.

I suspect the design of the site, when you go beyond the main page, has been stolen too. Compare www.hilarycinis.com/dance.html

I knew I'd seen those flowers before...

I seriously doubt that the few mistakes made were intentional. Sometimes people make mistakes, that' s what it takes to learn how to build a website, or how to teach classes or how to run a successful business. Maybe she just needed someone to tell her...hey that might not be the right way to go about things..lol... I know it's got to be hard work on top of remembering to have fun dancing.
