I have a similar problem like any other woman who is currently pregnant, About 8 months ago I got my second tattoo done located on my stomach on the rise side(Rib Cage) I am currently pregnant, and will be expecting my first child April 29 2010. I have been researching about belly tattoos for awhile, and am worried that my tattoo will distort and that stretch marks may damage it. Here is a picture of my tattoo; so far I am 2months into my pregnancy, so my body hasn't changed much, but am still very concern about this because my tattoo is my own artwork, your feedback and thoughts will be appreciated, Thank you.

Re: Will my tattoo go back to its orginal size?
Fri, September 18, 2009 - 7:56 AMBeautiful tattoo! First thought that came to mind was moisturize. Did a quick search and
I found this about tattoos and pregnancy.

How do I care for my tattoo?
Luckily an existing tattoo won't affect your baby-to-be, but your growing baby might affect your tattoo. Stretch marks can leave a tattoo discolored and distorted.
Diane Madfes, a dermatologist and clinical instructor at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, recommends moisturizing your skin regularly. "I tell my patients to moisturize twice a day," says Madfes. "Any over-the-counter lotion will do, but I prefer one with shea butter because it forms a protective barrier." Lubing up your pregnant body with baby oil in the shower is great too. "Rub the oil in a circular motion, and try to slowly stretch the skin," adds Madfes. Although there's no scientific proof that stretch mark creams prevent these pregnancy scars, they will keep your skin moisturized.
So what happens if you've tried every lotion and potion out there to keep stretch marks under control and your tattoo ends up looking the worse for wear? Well, luckily your body art can be reworked after childbirth. Joey Wyman, a former San Francisco tattoo artist, advises waiting until your baby-bearing years are behind you and you're back to your normal body tone before having your tattoo touched up. The textural differences caused by stretch marks will still be there, but the tattoo's coloring can be revitalized.
Hope this helps

Re: Will my tattoo go back to its orginal size?
Fri, September 18, 2009 - 6:58 PMFrom what I understand, based on my tattoo artist's input and friends who have had kids and tattoos...it's totally individual. Women stretch in different places; some don't stretch at all (in terms of the marks it leaves). Some now have distorted tattoos on their bellies; for others their hip/back tattoos change.
You can try and moisturize a ton with cocoa butter and other stuff, but in the end you won't know the effect until after the birth and seeing how your body adjusts afterward. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but it's just that the stories I've heard are all so varied...it really depends on each individual woman. -

Re: Will my tattoo go back to its orginal size?
Sat, September 19, 2009 - 10:26 AMHi,
I just had a baby 6 months ago and I carried him mostly in the front (pointy)so I have stretch marks on my side. Kinda where you have your tattoo. So it would depend on how you carry your baby. If you end up being round instead of pointy (your belly) then I think you will be ok. I would also ask your mom if she got stretch marks. It can also be heredity. Good luck!! And congrats!!!!!!!!
