Fri, September 11, 2009 - 3:27 PMI like both but it depends on how stiff it is going to be. I have one that is very stiff so I made it to tie in the front so it fits across the back better. It sits a little lower in the front so the whole belt is at an angle. When you tie on the sides there can be some gaping in the back if you don't have darts somehow figured into the design. -

Mon, September 14, 2009 - 12:54 PMIf you cut the shape in a slight curve, sometimes you can get around the gapping problem. I always make my bases out of a slightly stretchy fabric so it pulls down tight against the body and fits to the curves. This doesn't work for EVERY belt design, but it works well for most stuff I make!

Mon, September 14, 2009 - 9:13 PMFor the belts that I make that clasp in the front, I sew a single dart at the center/back. It gets covered up with buttons/beads, so you don't see the seam, but you get a great fit. I've got a bootie, and I have to allow for it!! -
