Re: How do you practice upper body and arm locks/pops/???
Wed, July 25, 2007 - 6:43 AMHave you tried the 'contemporary bellydance' DVD by Ariellah? She has some great arm drills there.

Wed, July 25, 2007 - 6:44 AMThe key is to tense the muscles in your forearm. Even if your want to stop the snake arm when your near the shoulder or at your hand, tense your forearm.
It's a tip I got at a workshop with Sera (East Coast Tribal). It sounds weird, but it really does work.
As far as the upper body goes, I just took a workshop with Frederique and she advised us to tense our diaphram to help with chest locks.
And (of course) practice practice practice! :-)
Hope this helps!!!

Wed, July 25, 2007 - 6:50 AMI agree with all the above.
When you want a sharp pop/lock, you tense your muscles. It's almost like a snapping motion. As you practice on your snake arms you'll improve your fluidity and it will make a more powerful effect.
