I don't know how soon supplies and things can be sent to Lebanon to help the civilians, but I don't think it's too soon to start planning it. What orgs have already started organzing relief efforts? Are there lists of supplies that are high in demand? Is any legit org accepting money to help the people?

        Educating Yourself!

        Sun, July 23, 2006 - 1:56 AM
Here is a start. Take a look at this link and watch the clip called "wall of hate"
I promise this isn't nearly as graphic as the link i posted before. This would also be a way of helping the crisis situation, by educating yourself.

Donating to help relieve suffering of people, no matter who, no matter where, is admirable. But in my opinion, this tribe should not be a venue for political opinion. I do not mean to offend anyone or to suggest they don't have a right to speak or express their point of view, but I just don't think this is the place for that. 'Nuff said.

I agree education is important. However, I spent quite a bit of time reading about various Middle Eastern countries, who's fighting with whom, the background issues, etc. Please don't assume that because I'm from the US, I don't have somewhat of an understanding of what's going on and haven't educated myself.

I'm thinking more needs to be done than that, since pretty all of the people posting here aren't diplomats or people of higer gov't positions. If you yourself can't afford to send money of any amount, which I know some people cannot, I was hoping this thread would spark some ideas of how to raise money
  • Doctors Without Borders/ MSF (doctorswithoutborders.org) is really good about helping the victims of war-torn countries. They provide food, help build wells for clean water, provide shelter, medical help, etc. I'm raising money for them this weekend through the blogathon (blogathon.org), but any time is a good time to donate!

If everyone just gave up *something* small every week (one coffee, one video rental, one candy bar) and put that money towards helping the world in some way, imagine the difference that could be made in a year!
