I thought it would be nice to start a thread where people can post links to video clips they find inspirational. So that we'll end up with TONS of good links to watch...

This one's a fusion kinda sword dance by Indian and belly dancer Meera Varma:
www.meera.tv/sworddance.mov

Her website's:

      ok, ok...it isn't exactly bellydance, but it is dance and travel (two things that inspire me the most). it is very cute.

        Thanks so much for sharing this!

        Matt Harding is way cool. And through Matt I discovered The Dance Man tinyurl.com/chzn4 , who has some definite groovin' moves-- with some focus on the arms and a cool costume on that bod.-- he's troupe material!

        Actually, if Matt did indeed travel to all those places in the clip, he's done/is doing an amazing thing. Imagine if the trend catches on and more and more people spread the good vibe through sharing their soul's dance in landscapes all over Gaia. Did you catch the laughter of someone watching him in Kenya?

        Imagine an American inspiring genuine laughter from people of other cultures, not because of ignorance, but because of playfulness. Matt's doing something powerful-- not only is he sharing his energy in the various geographies-- he's being himself regardless of the environment. The clip to me is a visual lesson, a reminder that while the scenes change around us, it's about continuing to dance our dance-- that's a prayer.

          it could not have been said better, lisa...your words are inspiration in and of itself.

        Wow! Thanks for posting that. Matt has definitely been lots of places! I loved looking at all of the scenery (and of course him dancing as well). Just showed this clip to one of my coworkers. We are both smiling now!

        Oh, B, what a gift you gave us! Thank you so much.

        I never heard of Matt Harding, but his "happy dance" made me smile, then laugh, then get tears in my eyes for the sweet joy that comes from watching someone having fun. There's hope for humanity.

        That made my year.

          Watching this clip is a different experience than I've felt when watching other Bharata Natyam dancers live or on video. I can't quite put a finger on what it is, though I do have an idea. The clip seems a bit visually distorted, which doesn't help.

          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          Regarding the Medha Hari clips (this link was posted earlier regarding the ; www.medhahari.com):
          This has me curious about her birth year.
          Subject: Masterful and inspired rendering
          This child prodigy, despite being only 13 years old, is already an accomplished master who demonstrates the most complex technique that 99% of professional Bharata Natyam dancers cannot reproduce. Besides the refined technique, the performance is imbibed with the divine inspiration, which is so rare these days.
          And: R. Demchuk
          Unique streaming videos of the rare Vazhuvoor and Pandanallur styles of Bharata natyam danced by a young Bharata natyam virtuoso who is widely believed to be the incarnation of one of the 26 apsaras (heavenly dancers). These are some clips from the collection of high-quality Bharata Natyam video on this Bharata Natyam dancer's web site, that gives one an idea of the sacred temple dancers' (devadasis') tradition (sadir) that is still alive in the contemporary renderings of Bharata-natyam...
          Slipping in links to two sites with good pics and info.
          French site, Bharata Natyam slide show, Diaporama: myweb.vector.ch/dubey/
          Very good site from a the New Zealand school Rachana Natyalaya. www.rachananatyalaya.com/ No video clips, but nice pages of hand gestures with explanations for each, etc.
        OH! Guess what ladies? Matt Harding ( the dancing man traveling the world doing his Happy Dance) was on Good Morning America this morning. Looked like he was back in South America. Livin' off a shoe string, it seems that Matt might be picking up sponsors to continue financing his dancing around the world. How Cool! 8) Everyone do the Happy Dance for Matt.
        Sorry, couldn't find the GMA video clip of the segment on the web. But incase you wonder where he is now and where he's going, check out the link above.
    Thanks for posting those links, Ethereal.
    The Free Running/Urban Flow thing is really cool, a bit like you see in martial arts movies, climbing against walls etc. Or like skaters but without the skate board or skates.
    And wow, that snakey, boneless guy, David Elsewhere, he's amazing...!
    He's like the Mr Bean of Free Style!
    I found another clip with him in it:
      O, I also found a very interesting interview with David Bernal aka Elsewhere.
      How he got into dancing, about his practice, his inspirations (machines, animal movements, the way the wind makes something move) and how he still gets nervous when he has to perform. He's been, amongst others, on Jay Leno.
        I love this quote from that article:
        "The thing about dancing is that it takes so long to develop these styles and moves. I’ve been dancing for eight years, and I’ve experimented for countless hours. Some of these moves have taken me years to perfect, but they only take a few seconds to perform. And then if people see one of your moves a couple of times they say it’s old. Talk about a lot of work for not that much pay off. Dancing is for people that want to do it for the love of it. "
        SOOOOO true for so many different dance forms! I empathize!
    Haha, they're not really 'my' links, just stumble across them when I'm occasionaly browsing the web for some modern dance or other video clips...
    You should thank the dancers and the web builders for putting them on in the first place... There are some really wonderful companies out there.
    Hey, and don't be afraid of posting links yourself too... ;)
    Oh Bee honey, that's just so funny...
    I play a flamenco song with my lover and a lady friend guitarist and a lady friend bass guitarist and the intro sounds just like the beginning of this song. My friends and I always have to laugh and giggle when we start playing it... Strange enough, my lover never heard of this song (you have to know your classics honey!), so he never participates in the girlish giggling...
    So now I send him this link, to 'bug' him, it just made me LAUUUUGHHHHHH
    Long clip with several material. Very interesting performance by the Shaolin monks (especially by the two swift and snake like little boys, they are amazing) and the famous juglar/movement pioneer Michael Moschen (know the eighties movie Labyrinth by Jim Henson, with David Bowie as the Goblin King and the fluidly rotating and dancing magical crystal balls in his hand? Well, that was Moschen's doing/hand/arm).
    This thread needs to be revived for a moment!
    I just found some AWESOME Batucada drummers on a website. I don't know what the rest of you think of samba/carnival beats, but if you love them, or even like them just a little, you gotta hear these guys. I wanna jump around and dance right now, but my neighbors downstairs would likely have a fit ;)
