I wonder if any of you actually includes exercises specifically for the feet into their practice sessions. And if so, would you like to share these exercises.
So far I've only seen two exercises for feet and ankles on an instructional DVD:
1. stretch on feet as if going into releve, lift the feet and point the toes, back to releve. repeat on other side.
2. what Blanca calls the 'girly ankle stretch'. Can't really describe it. It's like shifting aour weight from one foot to the other while going into releve on the non-weightet foot. and stretching the ankle inwards a bit.
I'd love to learn more exercises like this into my practise sessions. Any ideas?

Sun, June 8, 2008 - 9:03 PMIf I remember correctly, Jean Butler's Irish Dance Master Class has some foot and ankle exercises, especially for strengthening on toe. At the very least, it's a fun DVD and it's available on Netflix. www.amazon.com/Butlers-Ir...pd_bbs_sr_1

Sun, June 15, 2008 - 8:35 AMWhoa!!! I think that is THE most detailed Wiki listing that I've ever seen...!!!
Help in making my eyes stop wiggling from all the info? Like, where to find actual instruction for her technique, cuz if it's in there, I'd never find it...*giggle*

Re: A practice for the feet
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 10:14 AMI do a few things, mostly standing that I got taught when I was a modern dancer.
one is putting my weight on one leg and then lifting the other foot to half toe (releve, or ball of the foot is the same) and rotating the toes clockwise then counterclockwise, then doing the same with my ankle, repeat on the otherside.
another is with my feet in first position, or parelel I plie then with legs still bent go up to half toe, straighten my legs, plie on half toe, go back to flat and then straighten my legs to return to my original position. or some variation of that.

Re: A practice for the feet
Sat, June 14, 2008 - 11:40 AMI had a yoga teacher, she had me do this.
Stand on one leg extend the other in front of you slightly off the ground, Bend your foot at a 90 degrees, bend your toes back 90 degrees, slowly point your foot. Curl your toes down, slowly bend your foot to 90 degrees, Bend your toes back to 90 degees and repeat.
After that I would do slow circles with the foot to the right and left while pointing your toes
This could be done seated if you can't stand on one foot for too long.
